It’s also worth checking the parking and access around your new address as early as possible. If you spot any restrictions, flag them when you request your quote so we can plan the easiest way to get everything in or out.
In the Netherlands, you can register your new address with the municipality from four weeks before your move until five days afterwards. It’s one of those little jobs that’s very easy to forget when you’re surrounded by boxes, so getting it sorted early means one less thing to think about once you’re settling in. You can find out more about registering a change of address on the Dutch Government website.
Leiden is a university city, which means certain times of year can get particularly busy for moving. If you already know your moving date, we always recommend booking sooner rather than later. That way, you’ll have more time to plan the details and figure out exactly how much help you want from us on the day.
One of the nice things about moving to Leiden is how easy it is to reach by train. Leiden Centraal has direct connections to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, and Schiphol Airport, which is especially handy if you’re arriving from abroad. Just remember to leave yourself plenty of time between your train or flight and collecting your new keys.
Leiden has all the charm you’d expect from a Dutch canal city, but thanks to its university, cafés, museums, and busy centre, there’s always something going on. Once all your boxes are unpacked, it won’t take long to find a few favourite spots of your own.
Nieuwe Rijn is a great place to start getting to know the city, especially when the market is on. From there, wander over to Haarlemmerstraat for cafés, independent shops, and plenty of places to grab something to eat. After a few visits, you’ll soon have your go-to coffee shop or lunch spot.
There’s no shortage of things to do on a rainy day in Leiden. Museum De Lakenhal is a great introduction to the city’s art and history, while Naturalis Biodiversity Centre is well worth a visit if you’re curious about dinosaurs, fossils, and the natural world. And with such a big university community, you’ll find plenty of talks, exhibitions, and events happening throughout the year.
When you need a break from the city streets, Hortus botanicus is a peaceful place to spend an hour or two. You can also take a walk around the Singelpark, a green route that loops around the historic centre. And for a different view of your new home, climb up to the Burcht and take in Leiden’s rooftops from above.

Absolutely. Leiden has plenty of older buildings where narrow or steep staircases can make moving larger furniture tricky. If something can't be moved safely via the stairs, we can use our moving lift to move it through a suitable window instead.
