Built for The Hague’s beautiful, stubborn buildings

A large flat or spacious office can still be in a building with narrow hallways, tight stairwells, and tiny lifts. The Hague’s older buildings can make it feel impossible to move a wardrobe or sofa without risking injury.

Our costume external moving lift was specifically designed for this type of architecture the Netherlands is famous for. The lift carries heavy and bulky items up the outside of the building. Then, it moves them through a window or balcony. This way, you completely avoid stairs and sharp corners. It’s also faster, since your belongings are going straight from the street to the floor you’re on.

With the High Level Movers’ external lift service, you also get a team that can use it properly.

Why customers choose our moving lift in The Hague

How It Works

Moving tips for The Hague

The Hague doesn’t require a permit for a standard moving lift, but getting the street ready still takes a little planning.

01

Tell the district road authority

Let the road authority know about the lift. The department needs to know if the lift will be on the pavement and how long it’ll be out.

02

Check the street before the crew arrives

Unfortunately, The Hague doesn’t allow you to reserve an on-street parking space before the move. So, you’ll need to come up with a plan to save space for the lift. Keep an eye out for parked cars, trees, cycle lanes, and anything else that could block the lift. If you can, try to save a spot the night before with a larger car on the street. If you know your neighbours, it doesn’t hurt to give them a heads up. They might be willing to clear the space for you!

03

Report your new address on time

When you move to The Hague, or really anywhere in the Netherlands, you need to report your change of address. You have a window of four weeks before the move until five days afterwards. When you report your new address, contact the municipality it’s in.

04

Leave the Afvalpas behind

When you’re moving, don’t forget that the Afvalpas belongs to the address, not the person. Put it aside so it doesn’t disappear into a moving box. You’ll need the pass to take bulky household waste to one of The Hague’s waste depots. Leave your current one for the next occupants and check that there’s a pass at your new space. If it’s missing, don’t worry! You can request a free replacement, but it can take up to ten working days. Getting ahead of it is just one less task you have to worry about on move-in day.

Moving lifts across The Hague

While The Hague is known as the City of Peace and Justice, it has a diverse range of stunning districts. But that same diversity brings different access problems that movers have to plan around.

A busy street in Centrum or Laak may not have much pavement space to set up the moving lift. If you’re moving into an upper-floor flat in Scheveningen, Segbroek, or Haagse Hout, you’ll need to carefully plan around balconies, trees, and parked cars.

We recommend sending us a few photos of your new and old buildings so we can get a lay of the land before we start planning. If you have a really tricky building setup, our team is happy to walk you through a plan on how we can manage your move.

Frequently asked questions about moving lifts in The Hague

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetur, adipiscing elit tincidunt fermentum, eros nisi lacinia ligula.

Not for a standard moving lift. If the lift will stand on the pavement or stay there for a while, you should let the district road authority know. A crane is different and requires a hoist permit.

No. The city doesn’t let you reserve an on-street parking space before moving day. This is why street photos are useful. Take them from far enough back to show the pavement, parked cars, and the front of the building.

Usually, but we need to see the setup first. The floor number alone doesn’t give us the full picture. Send us photos of the building and the window or balcony you want to use, and we’ll check whether the lift has a clear route.

As soon as you know your moving date, try to book a moving lift. Last-minute bookings are still possible, but a busy street or awkward building takes more preparation. Booking early gives us time to spot any access problems before the crew arrives.

There isn’t one flat price because every setup is different. A third-floor flat with clear pavement is a different job from a high floor on a packed street. Fill out our online form, and we’ll quote for the lift your move actually needs.
