We’ve got over 15 years of experience with awkward staircases, narrow hallways, and Delft residents’ precious items.
Just fill out your details for a quick quote.
The Netherlands may be known for its canals, but not all cities have the wide canal rings like Amsterdam. Delft’s canals date back to the 1100s, so they’re much narrower and more medieval-looking. Of course, this living history, paired with the major technical university TU Delft, gives Delft a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. While the history-meets-innovation charm gives the city a unique duality, it also means its slender canal roads are trying to play host to the modern world.
And we can say confidently that medieval roads were not built with moving trucks in mind. Some of the buildings date back centuries and are stunning testaments to time. But that also means many of Delft’s homes are small and have tight staircases and narrow hallways. A mover’s nightmare.
But not for High Lever Movers. Our team of moving experts has been helping Delft movers for over 15 years. We know how to handle this medieval town and even have a specialist lift for these slim spaces.
High Level Movers is the moving company Delft can count on, so you can kick back and enjoy your next adventure. You won’t have to worry about tricky angles or taking a week off to recover.
Our team might make up one of the top moving companies in Delft, but we’re so much more. You can also rent our specialised High Lever Movers lift and storage spaces.
Not sure how to move your modern furniture or equipment through slim canal roads? Our external lift makes it easy to move big items without breaking them or your patience.
Enchanting medieval spaces are packed with charm, but short on space. Our local storage facilities keep your things protected and easy to access when you need them.

We like to keep things simple. Here’s how we’ll get your move underway in four steps.
If you’re moving to the heart of Delft, then permits (AKA waivers) are a must. The historic centre in Delft is completely closed to regular vehicle access, and that includes movers. But don’t worry, that doesn’t mean you have to recruit a horse and buggy. You can typically get a waiver for a moving van. If you’re moving within Delft’s centre, you need a permit at both locations. If you don’t, you’ll be hit with big fines and possibly derail your move. You can apply for one on the Gemeente Delft (municipality) website. The permit can only be issued through the municipality. So, be sure to plan ahead!
Thanks to the technical university, TU Delft, Delft has an extremely high student population. It also has one of the tighter student housing markets in the Netherlands. With TU Delft’s growing enrolment, rooms get snatched up fast. Most student housing comes furnished, making it a less complicated move. But when you’re ready to get an actual apartment, or you’re a non-student competing for housing, quick moves can get complicated.
Delft hosts lively, weekly markets in and around the Markt Square, on Thursdays and Saturdays. These markets date back centuries and are a fun outing, steeped in tradition. But they can make moving a nightmare. Streets are already restricted in the city centre, and with markets added on top, coordinating your move can get extremely challenging. It’s always best to check the market days and try to avoid them if possible.
Legally, you have to register your new address with your municipality. This is true no matter where you move in the Netherlands. You can register up to 4 weeks before your move and 5 days after. Our advice is to get ahead of it. It just takes a few minutes online with your DigiD. If you miss the window, you might deal with fines and won’t have access to your local resources.
Delft, or Prince City as it’s often called as a nod to William of Orange from the House of Orange, is full of life beyond its history. It has its own unique quirks and is far more than just a “Little Amsterdam.”
You can also visit the Koninklijke Delft, which is the last original part of the Delft pottery factories from 1653. Delft is known for Delfts Blauw, a famous hand-painted blue and white pottery that was made in the 17th century. There’s also, of course, plenty of museums to explore, like the Museum Prinsenhof, Vermeer Centrum, and Nieuwe Kerk, which has the royal burial vault of the House of Orange and a 110-meter tower. You can climb up the tower and get breathtaking views as far as Rotterdam and The Hague.
While the city is chock-full of history, there’s plenty to see on the science front. Hortus Botanicus is a botanical garden at TU Delft. You don’t have to be a student to take in the greenhouses, arboretum, and themed plant collections. Another public TU highlight is the Science Centre Delft. The Science Centre has interactive exhibits that are created from university research, like the Nuna solar-powered race car, which has repeatedly crowned the fastest in the world!
By boat or bicycle, you can get to know the city through its iconic canals. Rondvaart Delft has daily canal cruises that take passengers through the historic heart of the city, taking you past old homes and under low, arched bridges you wouldn’t see just walking around. You can also go enjoy a cycling ride through the narrow streets.
If you’re searching for a moving company in Delft or beyond, High Level Movers is here to help. Our team can help you move in and out of the city easily.
If your move is taking you further away, you can find our crew, storage facilities, and moving lifts across the Netherlands.

It depends on the move. Things like how much you’re bringing, the distance between your addresses, access at each property, and any extra help you need will all affect the price. The easiest way to get an idea is to use our online dashboard to calculate your cargo volume and get an instant quote.
Some local moves can be wrapped up in a few hours, while bigger homes naturally take a little longer. How much you’re moving, the distance between addresses, stairs, and access can all affect the timing. Once we know the details, we can give you a better idea of timelines and what your moving day will look like.
We come prepared. Depending on what your move needs, we can use moving blankets, bubble wrap, straps, dollies, protective foil, and floor protection to look after your belongings and property while we work.
We’ve met plenty of sofas and wardrobes that simply weren’t going to make it down a staircase. If the stairs are too narrow, our external moving lift may be able to move larger pieces in or out through a suitable window instead.
We handle local moves across Amsterdam, Delft, Dordrecht, Gouda, Haarlem, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Zoetermeer, Alkmaar, Amersfoort, and Purmerend. If you don’t see your town or city on our list, get in touch and tell us where you’re moving. We may still be able to help.
Don’t do it alone. Getting a free quote takes minutes, and we’ll make the rest of your move just as easy.
